Karen Horney - neuroses and personal growth
The neurotic process - a special form of human development, it is extremely unfortunate because of the waste of creative energy to which it condemns human rights. It not only qualitatively different from the healthy maturation and growth, but it is just the opposite in many ways, and to a much greater extent than we think. Under favorable conditions, the energy of the people is the implementation of their own capacities, that is embodied in the reality of the totality of possibilities that are inherent in them potentially. This development is far from uniform. In line with its particular temperament, abilities, preferences, conditions of childhood and later in life a person can become softer or harder, or more cautious trusting, confident or not very confident, contemplative and communicative, he can display their special talents. But whatever direction he might go, he will develop their own, it is inherent in the makings.
