The kinetics of ethanol esterification with formic acid C2H5OH+HCOOH=HCOOC2H5+H2O corresponds to the first-order kinetic law (the reaction was carried out in a large excess of ethanol and water) in both directions. At a temperature of 25 C, the reaction rate constants are, respectively, k1=1.85*10-3 min-1, k-1=1.78*10-3 min-1, the initial concentration of formic acid is 0.1 M
a) Calculate the percentage of the resulting product (ethyl formate) when equilibrium is reached in the system.
b) Calculate the time required for the reaction to proceed to 80% of the equilibrium state.
