Theodoric von Ackenburg, a former crusader knight, is tired of the cruelties of war, but the events of the recent past again force him to take up the sword. Fifteen years ago, Theodoric and his comrade-in-arms Ulrich von Grevel accidentally stumbled upon a fragment of Aaron´s Rod, an ancient artifact too powerful for mere mortals to control. Now, a young monk, Malcolm, has come to tell Theodoric that Ulrich has set his sights on finding the remaining pieces of the relic, and that doing so will bring evil and untold suffering to the world.
Theodoric decides to get ahead of Ulrich and collect the missing fragments. He will have a long journey across Europe and the Middle East. Other warriors will stand under his banner, from the elderly Teutonic veteran Reinhard von Kempten to the ambitious young mercenary Grimhild Eidottir and her band of Ravens. Each of them will have their own reasons for joining you, but little by little, the brotherly bonds between you will grow so strong that any obstacles and trials will become within your power.
