Task id12391

A small diameter glass tube is lowered into mercury; mercury does not completely wet the glass. Assuming that the internal radius of the capillary r0, the density of mercury p, and the coefficient of surface tension b are known, determine the amount of heat that will be released or absorbed as a result of the development of capillary phenomena. The meniscus is above the lower section of the tube. Assume that the distance by which the meniscus will shift during the development of capillary phenomena is much greater than the radius of the capillary.
