The distribution coefficient of normal butyric acid C3H7COOH between chloroform and water at T = 298 K is 0.52. What amount of butyric acid can be extracted from 100 cm3 of a 0.5 M solution of butyric acid in chloroform with a single extraction of 100 cm3 of water and with four extractions in portions of 25 cm3 of water?
