Give the reaction for the detection of bromide ions using AgNO3 solution. Is this reaction pharmacopoeial? How is the precipitate formed colored? What happens to the precipitate when it is treated with solutions of sodium thiosulfate and ammonium carbonate? Give the corresponding reaction equations in ionic form.
